A change of franchise can occur at the beginning of the relevant calendar year.

* Under the law on health insurance (KVG), if costs for a doctor, hospital treatment or medication are payable, the policyholders must themselves first assume part of these costs in each calendar year. This initial cost contribution is known as the annual franchise.
